The last day of July!

Yes it is! Well... Summer just got here in Montreal... Even the local weather network says that this month of July was the worst ever recorded. What is happening to the world? Plus my allergies have been acting up everyday since Spring. But I will stop boring you with the weather and talk about my day. I spent it with my dear friend Sara and we had the best ice cream in town! Sorbet coconut and soy chocolate ice cream, perfect for little old lactose intolerant me!

Me and Stéphane had diner and rented a blaxploitation movie called Buck town. We are just about to watch it we have been on a blaxploitation and Woody Allen movie marathon for these past couple of weeks.

So on to my oufit details... I am wearing a vintage cotton top with embroidery and rick rack that I found while thrifting in my old hood, Baby blue high waisted button up full skirt from the Sally Ann and then I hacked it off a few inches. My favorite leather belt that is also thrifted and high heel oxfords from ebay, cross stitch earings by The Pinpals! I am a huge fan! Oh yeah! and my new favorite doctors bag is also thrifted!

These pictures were all taken by Stéphane! The location is an old elementary school with a nice old little girls entrance, in the photo it is written in french (Filles).

Have a wonderful weekend everyone in blog lala land!

L'officiel 1976

I came across this 1976 L'officiel at this place here in Montreal called the Old Shop. I picked up this issue and was blown away by all the great photo layouts and designer ads. They don't make fashion magazine the way they use to!

For some reason new magazines promote the same stuff over and over again. I get so bored and it takes alot for a fashion magazine to get my attention now a days. Does anyone else feel that way? At school I always have to do research in magazines for insperation but I really don't get any. All my insperations come from either old art books, photography or vintage fashion and craft magazines.

I scanned a few of my favorite pages in this issue. It was an ode to America for the Bicentenaire ( I don't know how to translate that in english, pardon my french). I am not a big fan of 70s fashion but this made me think twice before judging the 70s for it's long maxi dresses! I love the shoot of NYC with all the Annie Hall inspired looks. I hope you enjoy this little selection I wanted to share with you all!

The hottest day of summer!

Photobucket
Pics by Stéphane!

What an amazing hot summer day we are finally having over here in Montreal! I got to ride my bike in the blazing sun and drink load of ice water! What a great feeling!

Me and Stéphane took a walk in our local park this afternoon, there were so many bugs! I felt so itchy when I got home. I went thrifting a bit this afternoon and found an amazing silk jumper slip thingy some awsome skirts and a dress. I will be posting about that stuff a little later on in the week so stay tuned. I also plan on making a blog post about this 1976 L'officiel magazine I came across a week or so ago at this shop here called the Old Shop.

My hair has been growing like weeds again, I am in a I don't know what do to with it phase... Braided lulu's tied up on my head really works for today since it's so hot. I am wearing this juniors 30s dress I purchased on ebay last summer. I love the poppy print on it. The dress is paper thin and perfect for hot sticky weather. I have the silk romper underneath as a slip since it's so sheer. The bag was in my etsy shop for a while but I decided I really needed to keep it :) My shoes are thrifted 80s oxfords paired with white socks.

Have a wonderful evening!

Latest sewing project

I haven't sewn a dress in months! Finally about a week and half ago I decided to start this sewing project. I knew I really wanted a gingham day dress for summer so I picked up this green and white gingham while on my Toronto shopping trip. It is a simple summer frock with top yoke, gathers and rounded pockets. I had these vintage frame buttons I thrifted a while back and they were the perfect touch for this dress. I really like it because I can wear it belted or alone.

My menswear creation

During the semester that just went by I was following a men's pattern making class. I had no idea I was gonna be as good as I was. I really started taking an interest in it and had fun doing the multiple projects and exercices we had to do. We saw pants and vest's. Pants was an easy task and so was vest's!

Are final project was to make a creative vest. Here is mine! I was inspired by a picture of a count's vest from the 17th century. It's not really an everyday piece of clothing but I was pretty happy with the end product. I got a great mark and my teacher was impressed, he said is was very theatrical. I want thank my lovely boyfriend Stéphane for being an awsome male model, he really knows how to work it!

Here were my original technical sketches:

More YeYe Girls!

As promised weeks ago, I wanted to share more YeYe Girls clips with you all. Here are some more for your listening eyes and ears...

I think this is my favorite version of Sony Bono's Bang Bang, Dalida really takes this song to an other level and turns it into a romantic mysterious one. I know I posted about Dalida in my first YeYe girls! post but this song is a must hear.

This lovely YeYe girl is Sheila! I adore this tune! It's about your girls that are happy that school is over. They dance around and scream cries of joy. I really love listening to this when I am doing patternmaking exams it makes me happy and nothing goes wrong!

Oufit for July 19th 2009

Photobucket

I got this dress in Toronto on my recent trip, it came from this shop called Exile it was the place were we baught the most stuff. They seemed to have the best selections and prices for vintage on Kensington ave. It is a nice light cotton 50s day dress with a sweet little peter pan collar. It kind of reminded me of this old tv show I adore called Gidget starring Sally Fields. I got the season on dvd a while back and watch it pretty often. I just love her innocent caracter and her wardrobe!

My belt is thrifted, shoes are an ebay find from a few summers ago, the mini bag is a church sale find and the blue barette was thrifted this week, I beleive it dates back to the 50s or 60s, it came with the original package. I will be posting a collage of the new etsy stuff going up on Wednesday!

Oufit for July 18th 2009

We are not getting the best weather here in Montreal latelly. It's been rainy one minute and sunny the next, it's so bad for frizzy hair!

Anyways, that's not stopping me from picture taking! I have been sewing alot since yesterday, I am making a green and white gingham mini dress that I hope to post about sometime next week. So far everything is going pretty well and my hand sewing skills are getting better and better. I got a new sewing machine a few weeks ago and man does it make a difference!

Today I am wearing a vintage midi lenght dress that I thrifted a few months ago, Nude colored summer heels that were also thrifted and a black and tan bag I found at a church sale this week that will be going up in my etsy shop this Wednesday. I have an other lot of 10 or more items going up in the shop on that day so stay tuned!

But we did get a few good shots of my outfit. I came across this vintage 60s two piece in Toronto. The shop is called Cabaret located on Queen Street West. I cute little shop with a nice selection of not notch vintage garments. If your in that part of the world go take a look!

My red patent leather bow flats are from Winners made by Stuart Wiseman and the Etienne Aigner bag was thrifted, oh and the rhinestone hair clip was a gift from my grand-mother.

Everything should be up on etsy tomorrow before noon.

Casa Loma

On my second day of my Toronto shopping trip we visited this wonderful hidden castle on the top of a hill called Casa Loma.

They started to build it in 1911 and cost over 3.500.000$ at the time to build. The original owner, Sir Henry Mill Pellat was an important buisness man. Sir Henry and his Lady Pellatt lived there for 10 years until they ran out of money and were forced to abandon the castle. other.

With our mapquest in hand we made it in a flash! There are three floors filled with decorated rooms with furniture that look of the period but I don't think alot of it was since the castle was rented out several times in the past and abandonned at some point. The first floor had an amazing ballroom with a huge library of real and fake books. The second floor was way better my favorite was Lady Pellatt's suite. It was so beautiful and peaceful with a great view overlooking on Toronto. The garden was a delight and perfect for picture taking.

I really like visiting this castle it reminded me of back when I was a child living in Germany. My mother and father would take us castle and museum visiting all the time. On e of my favorite childhood memories.

Enjoy the snapshots of my visit!

Oufit for July 17th 2009

Photobucket
I have been pretty obsessed with wide brim hats latelly, I was lucky to find two great ones on my shopping trip in Toronto earlier this week. This white one I found at a Salvation army on Queen Street West for half off of 4.99$. The dress was also found in Toronto at this cute little shop in the Kensington market called Ego. It is a 60s cotton mini shift dress in red and white, it's very bold but I fell in love instantly! It gave me a Pierre Cardin or Courrège feeling two of my favs in french 60s fashion. I wanted to post about the Casa Loma castle I visited but I have been so busy taking pictures of new vintage goodies going in the etsy shop early this week. I will post that tomorrow since it takes me ages to make collages in illustrator because my laptop is so slow! :)

Shopping trip in Toronto!

Photobucket

We decided to take a short trip to Toronto again this summer since the last time we discovered this little vintage shopping spot called Kensington market. Me and my man fell in love with the street and all of it's wonderful vintage shops. We left very early Thursday morning with many coffees in hand some great tunes. Six hours later we got changed and hit the streets of Toronto for some serious vintage shopping. We made a day of it and it was so delightful! I found a few great vintage dresses, and more that I will be photographing very soon. My man found so much great stuff the people were so happy he found so much they gave us a free fake mustache!

It's such a great city we had a blast in the less then 48 hours we spent. Great food, people on the street stop you to tell you they love your style, this happened a few times for Stéphane and myself we were blushing the whole time ;)

I think we will make this a summer thing, there is nothing like this place I have never seen so much vintage in one day. Tomorrow I will make a post on Casa Loma a castle on a hill in Toronto built around 1911.

Summer vacation dress

I found this lovely 60s yellow and white gingham mini shift a few weeks ago on etsy. I wasen't quite sure about the hem since in the before photo in this collage I did, you can see that it's twisting and uneven. When I received the lovely dress in the mail I tried it on and found that on it looked horrible even after ironing it carefully. I then examined the dress inside and noticed that I could let the hem down. I was kinda of scared since the bottom part of the dress was cut in the bias and not quite sure how it would look after taking it down. It was a sucess it fits so much better and the lenght is perfect. This is my favorite dress in my closet now :)

Wardrobe for July 5th 2009

I haven't been taking alot of wardrobe pictures latelly, I feel like my wardrobe is more fonction then style these days. I walk everywere and use my bike alot more then last summer. It's not easy to look cute while moving around so much and being a seamstress with threads all over the place.

I took a walk in my new neighbourhood this afternoon after a day of sewing at work and I was inspired by all the lovely colors in the many flowers in my new area. It's a very cute little Italian inspired place with gardens, flowers, statues of the virgin Mary and cute little old ladies doing some shopping at the local fruit stores.

I am going to Toronto on Thursday for a few days for a much needed vacation. We really enjoyed it last summer. I plan on doing a bit of thrifting and checking out some museums and a little shopping in Kensington Market.

So this is my oufit for today:
-Vintage skrunken denim jacket, thrifted years ago I will never get rid of it.
-Thrifted H&M yellow jersey tee
-Vintage circle skirt with amazing floral print, also thrifted
-Leather purse, thrifted
-Leather T strap maryjanes,thrifted

We are finally home!

It's official! We moved into our new home and how much work it was! I am still working on some curtains for the bedroom and the vinyl room. Today we went coffee table shopping and found this amazing vintage 60s Teak one at Spuntnik on Amherts street. The lady was very nice and cut a good deal with us. I wanted to post more pics of our new place but the light today is not so good because of the rainy days we have been getting.

Enjoy the few shots I took...
